Langkawi – an island of legend, duty free shopping and national heritage.

Langkawi Geopark is Malaysia's first Geopark with a duty free status and is located in the Northern State of Kedah. It is unique in the sense that it was formed on 99 beautiful islands that made up the legendary Langkawi Archipelago. "World GeoPark" was declared by UNESCO in 2007 because at 550 million years old, the Mat Chinchang Mountain range and rainforest is one of the oldest rock formations in South East Asia. This World GeoPark offers mangrove tours and it takes approximately 25 minutes by car from the resort to reach the Kilim River jetty from where the tour starts. There will be a boat tour to bring guests to places such as the fish farm and surrounding caves with prominent karsts landscapes, sea arches, sea stacks, fossils, glacial drop stones, waterfalls and ancient seabed to be discovered.

Telaga Tujuh, which is part of the Gunung Mat Chinchang Forest Reserve (mainly comprising of dipterocarp forests), is probably among the oldest natural and free attractions in Langkawi. A long flight of 638 concrete steps inclines at about 45º to 60º lead all the way to the top, where there is a wooden lookout tower and several shelters. If you don't fancy hiking all the way up, just make a detour halfway (10 minutes from the bottom) where a concrete walkway takes you to the first tier of the Telaga Tujuh falls. It is a great place for a cool dip or just to relax. Water from the mountain flows into the top well, then the one below, and so on until it emerges from the seventh and lowest well into a waterfall that cascades into another stream below in green, peaceful surroundings. Telaga Tujuh is the source of Sungai Perangin.

Just 3 minutes drive away from the resort is the cable car station located at The Oriental Village, near Pantai Kok. These cable cars take visitors all the way up to Mat Chincang, Langkawi’s second highest peak. Besides entering the village and passing through the pleasant oriental garden and souvenir shops, this ride offers a thrilling adventure for all.

Located approximately 20 minutes away by car from the resort is the Underwater World Langkawi, set on 6.2 acres of land at Pantai Chenang. Underwater World is one of the largest marine and freshwater aquaria in the region. It features over 5,000 varieties of fish and other exhibits from 500 species displayed in over 100 tanks. Highlights include the gigantic hexagonal tank and walk-through tunnel tank containing six million litres of sea water. Here you can observe sharks, stingrays, huge turtles and other sea creatures swim by, separated from visitors only by the laminated clear glass walls of the tunnel. Since the start of its operation on 26 August 1995, it has become one of the must-see tourist destinations in Langkawi.

Dive enthusiasts can enjoy excursions to the nearby islands lying in the southern tip of Langkawi which are well-known for its colourful underwater treasure. The nearby Pulau Payar boasts spectacular beautiful dive sites with Coral Garden being the most famous among dive enthusiasts. The Pulau Payar Marine Park, established off the West coast of Peninsular Malaysia consists of Pulau Payar, Pulau Kaca, Pulau Lembu and Pulau Segantang. It is located approximately 15 nautical miles west of Kuala Kedah, 19 nautical miles South of Langkawi Island and 32 nautical miles North of Pulau Pinang. Pulau Payar has been established as a marine park in 1985 and is the first marine park in Malaysia. NameD after Pulau Payar, the Payar Island Marine Park teems with a fascinating diversity of marine life and coral reefs. The best diving season in Langkawi starts from February to November.

This historical site is located 30 minutes by car from the resort. The story goes as such - during the time of the powerful Sultanates, Mahsuri was said to be the most beautiful woman in all of Langkawi. Accused of committing adultery and following the old Islamic punishment for adultery, Mahsuri was tied to a tree and stabbed to death. White blood flowed from her wound, signifying her innocence. During her last dying breath, Mahsuri cursed Langkawi to seven generations of bad luck. Local villagers believe the legend to be true, citing the Siamese invasion in 1821 and failed crops.

This lake is a must on your itinerary with its fascinating geological features and mysterious legend. It is believed that barren women who drink from this lake will conceive.
