Berjaya Times Square Hotel, Kuala Lumpur Drives Volunteerism At Local Welfare Centre

Hotel’s Associates Undertake Maintenance Works at Kuala Lumpur Krash Pad Centre to Provide a Safer and More Conducive Environment for Marginalised Teens

KUALA LUMPUR, JUNE 2015 – With the goal of giving back to those in need and creating greater community inclusion for the marginalised children in seedy areas of the city, the Management and Associates of Berjaya Times Square Hotel, Kuala Lumpur recently paid a visit to Kuala Lumpur Krash Pad, a non-profit centre serving as a second home and shelter for vulnerable teenagers from the streets in the Chow Kit area.

On Thursday morning, a team of 25 associates headed by the Engineering Department of Berjaya Times Square Hotel, Kuala Lumpur got together and spent a day at Kuala Lumpur Krash Pad centre. The programme of the visit started off with maintenance work such as cleaning, painting, electrical wiring and plumbing repairs as well as wooden partition works at their activity hall and computer room.

Later that afternoon, the teenagers were treated to a splendid buffet spread prepared specially by the hotel’s kitchen team. The day went on with amazing performances by the teenagers and hotel associates. They session was made extra cheerful by the teens singing to various Malay and English songs accompanied by beatboxing and strumming of acoustic guitars.

To top the merriment of the visit, the associates also threw a mini celebration for those whose birthdays were in June. A delectable Chocolate Moist Cake from the hotel’s Big Apple Restaurant was presented by the team. Mondi Mecja, General Manager of Berjaya Times Square Hotel, Kuala Lumpur said, “We are delighted to be here today to give a helping hand at Kuala Lumpur Krash Pad centre. Caring for others and giving back to the community is what our hotel and associates stand for. We will definitely continue to further such efforts and contribute where we can.”

At the end of the visit, Mr Jogindar Singh, Chief Engineer of Berjaya Time Square Hotel, Kuala Lumpur presented goodie bags to the teenagers before bidding farewell. Each goodie bag consisted of essential items such toiletries, pillow cases, bedroom slippers and towels. Sports Toto Malaysia also played a part by sponsoring some of the items to the teenagers. “The visit has been meaningful knowing we have made a small difference for the teenagers. More importantly, it is the experience that we have shared and the bond that has formed between the teenagers and hotel associates,” said Jogindar.

Kuala Lumpur Krash Pad is a centre run by Yayasan Chow Kit that has been operating in partnership with the Ministry of Women, Family and Community Development to meet the needs and rights of vulnerable and at-risk inner city adolescents and young people.
