Berjaya Times Square Hotel, Kuala Lumpur Provides Hot Meals To The Homeless And Urban Poor In Exchange For Smiles.

KUALA LUMPUR, MARCH 2016 – Berjaya Times Square Hotel, Kuala Lumpur recently joined hands with Kechara Soup Kitchen to feed the homeless and urban poor, as part of the Corporate Social Responsibility Programme for March 2016. A total of 21 associates from various departments within the hotel participated in this CSR activity.

The hotel associates arrived at the Kechara Soup Kitchen located off Jalan Imbi at 9.30am and had an informative orientation session with Kechara’s regular volunteers. All new volunteers are required to attend orientation which not only explained the correct procedures for packing food but also the proper interaction skills needed.

The hotel associates were then ushered into Kechara’s kitchen to get started on the meal packing process. The group was separated into two teams. The first team unloaded the pre-prepared vegetarian dishes, while the second team filled the lunch boxes and packed them with a bottle of mineral water, fresh fruits and eating utensils. In the span of an hour, the team prepared 250 lunch boxes, just in time for the afternoon crowd. The associates each took turns serving, giving a hot meal to people who arrived at the soup kitchen, in exchange for a smile. A few also took the opportunity to discuss possible job opportunities with Berjaya Times Square Hotel, Kuala Lumpur’s new executive chef, Chef Koay who happily provided his contact details.

“We chose Kechara Soup Kitchen as our partner for this month’s CSR activity because we stand by their motto which is that “Hunger Knows No Barriers”. We believe that each individual regardless of their race, gender and culture should have access to food and water. This is our first time collaborating with Kechara but we hope that this partnership will continue on far into the future”, said Mondi Mecja, General Manager of Berjaya Times Square Hotel, Kuala Lumpur.
