FANCY playing a game and winning an all-expense paid and planned wedding next year?
This is what Berjaya Hotels and Resorts is offering one lucky couple who participate in the first online public voting wedding contest in Malaysia.
The Love Me Do contest tests and humours the millions of Malaysians who will be voting to decide the winner of the contest.
“The idea for this contest is based on the hype of the new media and social networking,” said Berjaya Hotels and Resorts marketing communications director Thang Han-Ni.
She noted that most Malaysians who wanted a beach wedding would opt for Bali or Phuket rather than a local destination.
“It is such a waste to see them going overseas when we have beautiful beaches here in Malaysia,” she said.

She hoped that the combination of the dream beach wedding and a contest would incite excitement among the public.
“We also wanted to make sure it is a pioneer effort, which is why we decided to go online,” she added.
Members of the media were transported in specially decorated vintage cars to the romantic French-themed Colmar Tropicale resort in Berjaya Hills, Pahang, for the launch of the event recently.
Named after the Beatles song Love Me Do, the contest comprises four phases.
The first phase, for the registration of the participating couples, runs from Oct 14 to Nov 27, after which Berjaya Hotels and Resorts will select 50 couples to move on to Phase Two.
“The decision will be made based on the couple’s creativity in answering questions about their dream wedding,” Thang said

The second phase, from Nov 28 to Jan 15, relies solely on public voting. The 50 couples will have to post videos on why they deserve to win the contest on the website.
The top seven couples will then move on to Phase Three.
The selected couples in Phase Three, which runs from Jan 16 until Feb 25, will be treated to a photo shoot by renowned wedding potographer Edmund Tham.
“They will also preview their wedding attire, as well as participate in other activities,” Thang added.
The couples will have to blog about their experiences in Phase Three, and the public will once again vote for their top three favourites.
The last phase, from Feb 26 to March 6, will involve the public voting for the most deserving couple who will win their dream wedding at the Berjaya Langkawi Beach and Spa Resort on April 23, 2009.

The contest is endorsed by the Association of Wedding Planners (AWP) and every detail, down to the smallest, for the wedding will be taken care of by the sponsors and Berjaya themselves.
“We have 20 sponsors who will take care of all the wedding details and we are looking forward to more coming in soon,” Thang added.
She said the winning couple could share their special moment with 60 of their closest friends and relatives.
“We are also looking for an airline which can sponsor the tickets for the guests,” Thang added.
