BERJAYA AIR FLIES TO LANGKAWI ISLAND

Four-weekly flight from Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, Subang

KUALA LUMPUR, NOVEMBER 2011 – BERJAYA AIR, the commercial airline under the hospitality wing of the public listed Malaysian conglomerate Berjaya Corporation is bringing its ATR 72-500 new generation aircraft, midrange-fare service to Langkawi as of 18 November 2011; with tickets on sale since early November for its new scheduled flights from Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport, Subang to Langkawi International Airport.

Known for its reputation as "The Jewel of Kedah" – an enviable duty-free island, world-class resorts, natural heritage, beaches and an archipelago of 99 islands in the Andaman Sea, Langkawi is the fifth destination in the airline's growing network. As Subang-based airline, Berjaya Air will bring its unique brand of midrange-fare competition to the Langkawi market with its 4-time-a-week flight schedule. To mark its expansion to this new getaway, the airline also launched its special offer at RM198 for return airfare through purchase of JackCow coupon; OR RM260 (weekday departure) and RM290 (weekend departure) for return airfare obtained through Berjaya Air Ticketing Counter, valid until February 2012.

"We are pleased to launch this new scheduled flight service to one of our country's most popular getaway spots – Langkawi," said Dato' Azlan bin Hj Ahmad Meah, Director of Berjaya Air.

"Malaysia recorded a 25% increase in tourist arrivals so far this year, and the increasing demand from tourists for air services prompted us to start the scheduled flights to the island. This initiative is in line with government efforts to develop Langkawi, particularly the Langkawi Development Authority's (Lada) efforts to actively develop tourism facilities in the island with the government allocation of RM420 million as announced in Budget 2012," he added.

"Our expansion to Langkawi Island will inject some much-needed competition into the air travel market. With affordable fares and a quality of service that is unrivalled in the domestic skies, we hope our new flight will be a welcome breath of fresh air for travelers looking for an affordable escape to this Geopark island. The destination also allows us to add more scheduled capacity from our Subang base, as we continue to grow our network," commented Adelie Lee Sok Khoon, General Manager of Berjaya Air.

One of the unique selling points of Berjaya Air is that it does not only provide air services but also offers holiday packages to customers. Being one of the hospitality arms of Berjaya Corporation, the airline has many connections that help the carrier creates great holiday packages with its partner - Berjaya Hotels & Resorts (BHR) as well as others in the tourism industry.

Abel Nelson Nang, Corporate Director, Marketing & Communications of BHR said, "We have listened to feedback from our customers about getting Berjaya Air to fly to Langkawi in harmonizing the presence of our award-winning 5-Star Berjaya Langkawi Resort. With continuous expansion within the group's hospitality division, we need to keep our focus on innovating the brand and delivering new customer experiences; and the launch of this new flight route is part of that effort to showcase the brand as our clients' one-stop hospitality arena."

Officiating the launch of Berjaya Air's inaugural flight to Langkawi was YB Dato' Paduka Abu Bakar Bin Taib, Member of Malaysia Parliament for Langkawi constituency; witnessed by YB Rawi Bin Abdul Hamid, State Assembly Member of Ayer Hangat (Langkawi).

Besides Langkawi, Berjaya Air also flies to Tioman, Redang, Pangkor (Malaysia) and Koh Samui (Thailand). It also offers direct flights from Singapore to Tioman and Redang.
