Volunteers Spruce Up Home
JOHOR BARU: The needy were not forgotten when a group of Berjaya Hotels and Resorts staff and media representatives from Kuala Lumpur and Johor Baru held a gotong-royong at the Sari Saujana Handicapped Children’s Home here.
Berjaya Hotels and Resorts corporate marketing and communications group director Abel Nelson Nang said the home, located at Jalan Stulang off Jalan Stulang Darat, has been adopted by the hotel.
“It is our policy to help charity organisations in our vicinity who need are in need of aid.
“We will try our best to assist the home by providing them with necessities from time to time,” he said, adding that the visit was part of their itinerary for 35 media practitioners who were on a familiarisation trip to the resort.
He said that during the three-hour visit, the team helped clean up the backyard, keep the children company during lunch which was sponsored by the staff and also organised several games to help break the ice with residents of the home.

The home’s founder Siti Sarimah Sariman, 64, said there are about 30 children between three to 18 years at the shelter for the disabled and less fortunate She has been running the home for 14 years together with her husband.
“Sari Saujana is named after my father, Sariman, and myself.
“The word ‘Saujana’ was taken from the official Johor mentri besar’s house as he helped me establish this charity home.
“We also run a charity shop in Danga City Mall which has a range of Coca Cola merchandise.
“We also accept contributions of items which are in good condition including household appliances, toys and clothes, for resale.”

The house depends on the generosity of the public to run its operations.
Siti Sarimah also has five children of her own and of the 30 children under her care, only 10 live there while the rest are from single-parent families who come to the home during the.
