BERJAYA TIOMAN RESORT RECOGNIZED AS CORAL RESTORER

20th July 2019, the Malaysia Fisheries Department celebrated their 25th year Silver Jubilee of Malaysia’s Marine Park at Tioman Island officiated by Dato’ Mohd Sallehhuddin bin Hassan, Chief Secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and Agrobased Industry.

Being an island, which is recognised as Category 4, Flagship Regional Sites by the Coral Triangle Marine Protected Are System (CTMPAS) which represents the highest criteria for management effectiveness, Tioman island was selected to celebrate this eventful occasion.

Besides having various engagement activities amongst the locals of the island and government agencies, this event also gives recognitions to organizations that have been involved in the island’s marine conservation and rehabilitation projects. The ‘Coral restorer’ was awarded to Berjaya Tioman Resort during this event to recognize the resort’s long-term coral reef restoration, rehabilitation and monitoring programme. Berjaya Tioman Resort’s coral conservation project is an on-going effort to preserve its natural coral reef which have been the natural heritage of Tioman Island.
